In Ann Arbor, Michigan, the team at American Process Group (APG), a division of SANEXEN, is hard at work removing more than 10,000 dry tons of lime residue from the city's water treatment plant. It's a major undertaking that calls for just as much technical precision as community engagement.
Project Overview
The project involves removing, dewatering, and transporting the lime residue that has accumulated in a basin at the Ann Arbor water treatment plant. Work began on May 11, with crews on site 12 hours a day, five days a week. Based on the initial volume, the project is expected to take approximately 78 days of treatment to complete.

Logistical Challenges, Under Control
This project comes with several challenges, but none beyond APG's expertise:
- limited space for equipment installation;
- restrictions due to the proximity of a school zone;
- operations carried out in the heart of a residential neighborhood;
- dredging performed in a basin located 1 km from APG's treatment platform.
That distance means the dredging and treatment teams have no direct line of sight to one another. Clear, constant communication between the two teams is therefore essential to keep operations safe and efficient.
A Careful Eye on Local Wildlife
The lime basin has also become home to a pair of swans well known throughout the neighborhood, where they're something of a local attraction. Their protection is being ensured throughout the project.

Meeting the Ann Arbor Community
On Friday, July 24, APG hosted a community barbecue in Ann Arbor to connect with local residents, walk them through the ongoing project, and answer their questions about the lime residue, the dewatering equipment, and how the water treatment plant operates.
The event was a great opportunity to engage directly with the community, clarify the nature of the ongoing work, and build constructive relationships with the people affected by the project. We were thrilled to welcome everyone who came out, and we truly appreciated the thoughtful questions, conversations, and interest shown throughout the day.
A Well-Deserved Thank You
Thank you to the APG team on site, and to everyone helping make this project another success. Thank you as well to the Ann Arbor community for joining us — your welcome and participation made all the difference.
