APG has extensive experience managing sludge transport and removal, whether for landfill disposal or beneficial reuse, and we tailor each solution to our customers’ needs.
We only use transportation subcontractors that we are comfortable with in terms of their experience and qualifications for performing our sludge hauling. On projects that require, we arrange for trucks that have sealed tailgates and provide box liners on projects where the material may cling to the truck box. Our subcontractors typically have covers over the boxes to ensure the solids being transported are contained.
Disposal options typically include solid waste landfills or beneficial reuse through land application or composting. Whenever feasible, we prioritize beneficial reuse to support environmental stewardship.
Land application involves spreading dewatered sludge cake on agricultural land, where its nutrient value makes it a natural alternative to chemical fertilizers. Because this process is strictly regulated, we help determine eligibility and coordinate with land application partners across the country.
Composting uses natural microorganisms to break down organic waste, with sludge contributing nutrients to the mix. While less common than land application, it is gaining interest as an alternative to landfill disposal.
When landfill disposal is the only option, we work directly with landfill operators to secure competitive pricing and terms. We can also arrange any required laboratory analysis, regardless of the disposal method.
